I'm New here - What Can I Expect?
When you come to Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, you are entering a small, strong faith community. We gather for worship on Sundays at 10:30am.
You will be welcomed as you come in our doors and directed to our sanctuary.
If you have children, they are welcome to be with you in worship. We have busy bags to keep small hands busy.
If you prefer, we offer nursery care for infants - 2 year olds. We provide an interactive school less for 3 year-olds - 5th graders.
Our worship is fairly traditional, but not stuffy. We begin with music. Early in worship we share the peace of Christ with everyone in our sanctuary. Don't be surprised that it takes a little while. We are a welcoming bunch and people will come and offer their hand to you.
We return to God a portion of the material gifts we have received. As a guest, you are not expected to make an offering. As your involvement with our church deepens, we know that you will share your time, talents and finances.
Next, we open our prayer time with big thank yous to God. Of course, we pray for each other, our community, and our big, wonderful world.
Following the scripture reading, we hear a message based on the day's reading. It's usually from our pastor, but not always. We have had guest preachers, youth, lay people and others present their interpretation of God's word because we know that God speaks in many ways, through many people.
Everyone is part of the worship service. Anyone may read scripture. We have music offerings from our chancel choir, hand bell choir, our organist/pianist, and others who feel called to offer music.
The first Sunday of each month we celebrate the Lord's Supper. Everyone who wishes to participate in this sacrament, regardless of age, is welcome.
Worship lasts about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. Before we leave the sanctuary, we share information on our current ministry opportunities. You are then invited to join us across the hall in the Mayflower Room for refreshments and, most importantly, an opportunity to get to know us and for us to know you.
Don't be surprised if you hear the vibrant sounds of praise music after our worship service. We are fortunate to host two other congregations. You'll be hearing the music of Bethel World Outreach, a West African Pentecostal congregation that meets in our Fellowship Hall.
If you are here late on Sunday afternoon, you might smell sage and hear drumming and Native American prayer songs. The Native American Christian Ministry meets Sundays at 4pm.
Please note your presence on our friendship pads which are found in each pew. If you will provide a way for us to reach you, we will inform you of events at Plymouth and we will thank you for your visit.
